Dior was founded in December 1946 in the 30th Avenue Montaigne in Paris.

On 12 February 1947 Dior launched his first fashion collection, presenting their products in their fashion store. The two collections presented were called New Look, after an enthusiastic affirmation of Carmel Snow, editor of Harper's Bazaar. The revolutionary New Look collection was an instant and huge success, influencing fashion to come, and bringing prestige to Paris as the capital of fashion, after the disaster of the World War II.

In 1947 also the first perfume of the house Dior sees the light. It was called Miss Dior, as Christian Dior's sister. From the fifties Dior production expands: stockings, furs, hats, gloves, bags, gloves, jewelry, lingerie, and scarves were made in this year. From 1951 to 1956 Dior designed clothes for Marlene Dietrich and Ava Gardner, and began to promote the brand in Mexico, Cuba, Canada, and Italy. In 1957, a few months after the appearance on the cover of Time, Christian Dior died for an heart attack. His place was given to the newly twenty years old Marc Bohan, artistic director of the fashion house Yves Saint Laurent. In 1989, in place of Bohan, toke the artistic direction the italian stilist Gianfranco Ferre and then, in 1990, John Galliano.
